L’hiver!

ноември 17, 2005

It is starting to get really cold here! So I am going to go look for thicker orange tights and a scarf today! Today has been a very staisfying day so far. rather normal but normal in a very beautiful French way. I was late for class again, which adds to the normalcy! :) So I had my General Linguistics course today as every other Thursday, from 10am to 12pm. That is the longest trip that I have to do for academics’ sake. All my other courses are in the Quartier Latin division of La Sorbonne, which is the old original building. But the Linguistics course is in the Malesherbes campus since that building houses the French language and literature department. It takes about 30 minutes to get there. maybe less if I am lucky and the three trains that I take to go there are perfectly timed. That never happens. And since I always leave at 9:40, I never make it. Moreover, the RER B is for some reason awfully slow on Thursdays which doesn’t help much.
Anyhow, I got up, dressed and had breakfast. A huge cup of coffee and two croissants witch Nutella. I was already running late but decided that I’d rather be late than not finish my coffee because that would already be a bad start of the day. I am starting to find out that Franch time streches - it is much more flexible than American time and that discovery has given me considerable joy considering my habits. I was stunned last night when I saw my discovery confirmed in the book I am reading: “French or Foe?”.
So, it is already 9:40 and I am leaving the house. Madam and I had a little chat at breakfast. We have really bonded recently! We have discovered that we share a passion for chocolate and that is already a solid bond right there!
So, I get on the RER B at Port Royal. I get off at Chatelet, and thake the RER A on the other side of the platform. I get off at Auber and take the Metro Line 3 to Malesherbes. The course has off course started. I walk in and mumble my excuse. I really like this course. It really makes my Thursday and on of its main qualities besides the charm of the professor is that it starts at 10am.
At 12pm, I trace my steps back and go to have lunch at the university Restaurant at port Royal. The food and the building are the best I have encoutered so far in this type of places so I go there regularly. Moreover, it is just two doors down from the house.
After lucn, I took a long walk in Jardin de Luxembourg. It was amazing. Today is a cold but summy fall day and was just the perfect weather. I realized that even though I live five minutes away from it and had crossed is a couple of time, I had never taken time to really walk around and see all that is there. And one should take one’s time for things like that. Because later, that is what will stay with me from Paris.
